Final Reflection:
Experience: As usual I was a bit apprehensive when this module commenced. Brand identities and logos are a big field of graphic design and something I was quite inexperienced in. However, I did end up enjoying this module because of the freedom of choice we were given. Creating your own brand from scratch and then shaping its identity was a really cool experience and very relevant to real life. I would love to own my own clothing brand like Monday and so this experience was especially important and special to me.
Observation: The biggest thing I observed was just how "big" brand identities are. Through further reading, assignments and just general experiences, I noticed that the brand's identity is embedded into every little thing. Sometimes when I would go to different establishments I found myself thinking how could I improve the brand identity of its place? Or what has this place done to shape its identity and perception. I observed that even though I was apprehensive and scared at first, this module turned out to be quite okay!
Findings: I found that even though I may not particularly like this field of graphic design, there are still a lot of valuable lessons to be learnt in it. It is not simply just creating a logo and identity it's so much more than that. Through Ms Li Lian's guidance, I came to realise how important it is for things to be fully thought out. We need to think of and decide all aspects of the brand so we are sure of what direction we want to take. This is something that is very relevant outside of this field too.
Overall, Brand Corporate Identity has been a pleasant and meaningful experience. I have learnt more about how expansive graphic design can be and what it is like in each of these. Maybe one day you'll see Monday on a huge billboard!
Thank you, Ms Li Lian
