Final Reflection:
Experience: Design Research Dissertation has been a really nice experience. As someone who enjoys writing and researching, this module was quite an educational experience. Putting all the research and data from Design Research Methodology into a cohesive and complete dissertation was actually a lot of fun. I gained a lot of experience in the sort of "report" writing format and how I can use the data I collected in an efficient and effective manner.
Observation: A few things I observed throughout the course of this module were that when I don't have a clear idea in my head I always end up being frustrated and confused. This was the case with the book design where I couldn't come up with an illustration. It was also the same with the research for publication, where I was not sure which research question I should go with and tried to sort of cram all 3 into the paper.
Findings: This module actually helped me find that I enjoy writing and with some effort and guidance, I can do it quite well too. It pushed me to see graphic design differently. I had become a bit worried when this semester started that I had chosen wrong and I do not want to do graphic design anymore. However, with DRD I realised there are a lot of facets of graphic design and I am in no way limited to just one. I think this module has really refined my writing skills and I have really enjoyed the process of writing and designing my dissertation.
I have learnt a lot and I am proud of the work I have produced. Graphic design in activism is something that really means a lot to me and something I think we should be talking about and I am glad to have gotten the opportunity to research and write about it.
Thank you, Dr Jinchi.
