Project #2
Lectures:
Week #4: To prepare for Project #2, Mr Martin gave us a lecture on storytelling in film and the 3 act structure. The 3 act structure consists of:
Beginning:
Setup/introduction of a story
Middle:
Confrontation of a problem
End:
Resolution of problems
Instructions:
Module Information Booklet
Project #2:
Favourite Zach King effects

I liked this compilation quite a lot. Although some of the ideas seem very complicated and hard to execute, some can be used and transformed to a simpler version. Such as the camping one, where one door leads to a completely new location, or his friend turning into colourful balls.
Tutorial
We then had to look at videos on how he makes the videos so we can get an idea of what to do.
Fig 1.1: Tutorial
I found this video that was really short and simple. I learnt that it's all about transitions and timing. The person also used Premiere Pro to edit it so that was a bonus. I need to flip two clips one before the transition and one that's the result of the transition and then trim them just so they blend together. Shooting on a tripod is essential to this because the background and positions have to be consistent.
Storyboard
Next, we had to create a short storyboard and a shot list.

Then we had to put in the storyboard with example shots.

Fig 1.4: Updated storyboard
After receiving feedback from Mr Martin I went ahead a shot my footage and added some scenes according to Mr Martin's suggestions.
Fig 1.5: Raw footage
I showed Mr Martin my draft version in Premiere Pro and he said I should change the hand into screen shot to an over the shoulder shot because it will be much better and more obvious.
Fig 1.6: Green screening my over the shoulder shot
I then used the Ultra Key feature on Premiere Pro to change the green screen to the background I wanted.

I added some ambience and colour corrected some shots.

Feedback:
Week #4: No work submitted
Week #6: Mr Martin said I should update my storyboard with real shots and show him again next week and then only shoot my footage.
Week #7: Mr Martin said my storyboard was good and that maybe I could add a few extra wide shots in the end for clarity.
Week #10: Submitted my final version of project #2
Reflection:
Week #4: This project seems exciting and will be such a great opportunity to learn video editing skills that can help us make cool videos. I used to watch Zach King on Vine when it was still around, so it's cool to be given this project to recreate his iconic videos.
Week #6: I think proper planning for this project is super important that's why I need to update my storyboard with proper example shots.
Week #7: I am glad Mr Martin approved my new storyboard and I can get to shooting. I am a bit nervous for the editing part but I guess it will be a cool learning experience
Week #10: I think this project was really interesting and a cool way to learn editing and how to green screen in Premiere Pro. I think my skill has increased a lot in Premiere Pro after this project and I am happy with my result because at the start of this project I didn't think I'll be able to do something like this.
