Task #1: Exercises

1. Lectures:

Week #1: This week Mr. Martin gave us a briefing of the module and all the upcoming projects. he told us about the equipment we would require so we can be prepared when the time comes to start our big projects. We then did an in class exercise of using Premiere Pro to arrange different clips from an advertisement into one video. He gave us one video to do as an exercise and our other task was to watch Zach King videos and pick 3 of our favourite effects from it, pick a stop motion video we like and post both in our blog.

Week #2: This week we learnt about different types of shots and camera angles. Mr. Martin also told us a bit about early cinema and how much cinema has progressed. We also saw some clips of some old movies and compared them to today to modern cinema. We also looked at how to make a composition while filming and the rule of thirds.

The shot sizes we learnt were:
- Wide shot
- Medium shot
- Medium close up shot
- Over the shoulder shot
- Extreme wide shot
- Medium wide shot
- Close up shot
- Extreme close up shot

Mr. Martin also asked us to make a video practising some of these shots.

Week #4: Mr Martin told us more about Premiere Pro. We learnt about the Ripple Edit tool which lets us trip a clip and the rest of the clips adjust themselves so we don't have to drag them one by one. We also learnt about some other tools available such as titles and end credits. We had to trip our Lalin clip down to 30 seconds using the Ripple Edit tool and then add the end credits for our exercise.

Week #5: This week Mr Martin told us about colour correction and how to adjust different visual aspects in Premiere Pro. We learnt about the colour waveforms in both RGB and black and white. We also learnt about how to aesthetically colour videos and the themes. Teal and orange is a common theme in videos and we practised how to create it using the colour wheels in Premiere Pro. We also learnt about the different tools used in colour correction such as the Eyedropper tool to adjust white balance, the Comparable View window etc.

3. Exercises:

Video combining exercises:

The first one we got were numbered and all in order and we just had to combine them in Premiere Pro

The second one was not numbered and we had to figure it out on our own.

The third exercise was to practice In and Out points in Premiere Pro. Mr. Martin provided us with the raw footage of some of our seniors reshooting scenes from the short film Lalin. We had to use the storyboard they created and combine it into one video.

Then we had to practice some of the shots we learnt in the lecture and combine them into one video.

We got another shooting exercise and this time we had to dance!

4. Feedback:

Week #1: No work submitted yet

Week #2: We submitted our exercises this week and Mr. Martin will give us feedback.

Week #4: Mr Maryin reviewed our dance exercise and gave us all feedback. He said mine was good and the angles were all correct too. It could've been better if I had slowed down the movement in my M.C.U shot more because since it's a closeup, and if there is too much movement, it doesn't look that nice and professional.

5. Reflection:

Week #1: This seems like it is going to be a very interesting module. I do not have a lot of experience in video or sound production so this should be an interesting and learning experience. Mr. Martin is always really helpful and guiding so I am not so nervous. I look forward to learning!

Week #2: I enjoyed learning about Premiere Pro this week. All the exercises have really helped me get a hang of Premiere Pro and all its functions. The shooting exercise was really fun too I felt like a movie director and I also learnt about how much shot sizes affect the scene. I have definitely started noticing the different sizes in all the movies I see which are really cool.

Week #4: As embarrassing as the dance exercise seemed it turned out okay :D. It was fun to see all my other classmates' cool and fun dances whilst also learning. It was a bit troublesome to shoot because of COVID I couldn't really go outside.
