Project #1: Instruct-able Infographic Poster

Information design

Lectures:

Miss Anis explained to us what we had to do for our project one. We had to turn a YouTube video from the channel Pasta Grannies into an infographic that depicts the recipe and the personalities of the grannies. We started out by planning out different things such as the aesthetics and narratives. Miss Anis checked up on our progress weekly and gave us feedback.

Module Information Booklet:

Project #1:

I started out by picking out Granny Isabella from the Youtube channel. I really enjoyed her Canederli recipe. It was simple, traditional and looked super delicious. For my poster I started by planning out some basics and creating a mind map.

I planned out how I would organise this information. I wanted to use the technique of chunking we learnt in our lectures.

I also planned out some of the visuals and colours I wanted to use.

After I had enough planning I started out on a draft poster first.

Miss Anis did not really like this. She said it was too simple and did not have a narrative. It has to not look like it was just taken straight from a recipe book and copy pasted. I decided to scratch that and start again with a new draft that was a bit more visual and conveyed the personalities and visuals of Granny Isabella.

Fig 1.4: New sketch

I decided to include visuals from the area in which Granny Isabella lived. I wanted to show that the cheese used in the recipe are special to that area as well.

Feedback:

Miss Anis' feedback on my first draft was that it was simply too plain and did not capture the essence of that video. It looked like a page from a recipe book rather than a visual representation of the recipe. I showed her my new design and she liked it a lot more and said that now it was coming together.

Reflection:

This project was also super fun to do and the concept of taking a video and making it into a poster was quite interesting. I really enjoy making posters and infographics so this was a nice way to gain more experience. It also challenged my creative thinking a bit as I tend to try and keep things a bit too simple so they become underwhelming.
